Keep Materials Dry
Important rule is: protect roofing and insulation materials from moisture before, as well as during, roof replacement. The system is susceptible to moisture before, during, and after the roof installation. Prior to installation, roofing materials (especially insulation) must be protected from moisture infiltration. Simply covering these materials may not be sufficient. Some insulations have been found to absorb moisture while stored in a warehouse, to the extent that they are too "wet" to install. It is important to store material off the floor or ground on pallets, and cover it with tarpaulins. The lightweight plastic wrapping that the materials are shipped in is usually not a sufficient covering because it tends to tear easily.
Wet Decks: Lightweight concrete decks are always a concern to the roofing contractor. It is important that they be properly vented. Most specifications call for the roofing contractor to "approve" the deck design before plans for proceeding with roof installation. The roof installer should perform a deck dryness test.
